Over the years I have accumulated quite a collection of self adhesive contact papers. Different surface patterns and textures (sort of) at the peel of a paper. I’m a big fan of a marbled effect (of course) which I’ve been using to cover the packaging for my jewellery (you can get a look at some of the newly released pieces on Etsy and Handmake Me). I made the decision to include contact paper in my simple skills series because lets face it, we’ve all got stuck to the stuff once in our lives! I’ve covered enough of my belongings with it now… Read More
Fall For… Creative Kitchens
Living in a rented flat it’s difficult to make a change to areas like the kitchen and bathroom without getting permission first. And even then, who wants to spend money on someone else’s apartment to be made to leave at a moments notice (the rental laws in the UK are awful). Apart from refitting, storing the old furniture and then refitting it when you leave (yeah, right.) you’re pretty much stuck with what you’ve got. We’re really lucky. The couple we rent our flat off are lovely and have excellent taste! (I don’t think they’d be reading this, but it never… Read More
DIY Black Marbled Candle Holders
As you guys know, I never shy away from a potential marble project. And so if my new position as a DIY contributor to Design*Sponge was not exciting enough (!!) it gave me yet another chance to revisit one of my current favourite techniques. It’s marbled clay of course! After using the marbled effect in a lot of other DIY’s I really wanted to create a different effect for this tutorial. I can’t help but be influenced by the changing seasons and as the evenings get darker and the weather more murky I find myself opting for darker colours over… Read More
All in the Details | DIY Ampersand Cork Coasters
All in the Details is a series of small but significant DIY’s that will give your home and surroundings a new lease of life without having to renovate on a large scale. About once a month (usually after a good Pinterest sesh) I want to change up the look of my living room, freshen my kitchen organisation or add something special to the bedroom, but if I allowed each of these whims I’d never be happy and be in a constant state of half finished projects and unorganised furniture…(that sounds about right to be fair) Sometimes a few small updates… Read More
How to Write & Publish your own Craft Book
As a blogger I have some short term goals (i.e. actually getting posts out on time, improving my writing skills), medium term goals (being a full time blogger/business woman extraordinaire) and those goals that are so far into the future that it’s hard to tell if they’re actually out there. My business strategy (not that I’m suggesting this insane way of working) is to try every possible creative avenue available to me and see which sticks. So when I had the opportunity to write and publish a craft book how could I say no? I had heard of Blurb before starting… Read More
Make it Easy | Metallic Birkenstocks
I posted a picture on Fall For DIY’s Facebook page the other day which had a lot of people telling me off for my choice of footwear. All in good spirits of course, but in any case I leapt to the defence of my sandal choice (well, cried a bit) and vowed to keep wearing them until my toes get – just a bit – numb (well, made whining noises). You get the gist. I don’t want to stop wearing sandals just because we’re prone to downpours at a moments notice or because when I step on the wrong paving… Read More
DIY Macrame Hanging… Pumpkins (& Squash)
Octobers of the past always hold such great memories for me. Not only is it my birthday month (more on that later) but luckily it falls just a few days before Halloween. My childhood birthday parties were spent having the best sleepover parties. All dressed up like witches in black bin bag dresses (we were creative) and cardboard pointed hats watching Hocus Pocus, Death Becomes Her and Beetlejuice. Then I discovered pumpkin pie and things just got a whole better! It’s taken a long time for the UK to embrace the humble squash and some of the more exotic varieties are still… Read More
DIY Paint Dipped Picture Frames
A lot of focus in my office update is going on practical solutions and furniture makeovers. I’m spending most of my time and efforts in creating a space that is clutter free, organised and easy to work in. This is a much bigger project than I had previously thought. It turns out my clutter is not organised so easily…. Because of this one of the things I have been overlooking is a little decoration. Like everything else I’ve been keeping the walls clean and white, but although having a blank canvas to work on might be great for photos, it’s… Read More
