DIY Salt Dough Baubles

My Christmas decorating is an ongoing process. It’s so much fun to sit down in the evening, heat up a mug of gluewine, treat myself to a couple of (dozen) mince pies (hello gym) and make some decorations. It’s also a great excuse to experiment with some new techniques. So what if it goes wrong. Christmas ornaments are meant to look a bit rough around the edges right? A tree with lights and shiny stuff on? Hardly the epitome of taste… and it shouldn’t be! It’s about having fun together, so grab someone, anyone, and try out these Salt Dough… Read More

DIY Christmas Alternative Tassel Garland

I’m finally getting around to making my Christmas decorations! Our flat is still undergoing general decorating and so it is a bit bare at the moment. It’s all good though, it just means we have more room for tinsle and pom poms right! After putting up our tree I decided to make this colourful garland from tassels, well, because you guys know how much I like a good tassel. Instructions: 1. Make the tassel by wrapping yarn around your fingers about 20 times. Slip the loops off your hand and wrap the end of the yarn around all of them… Read More

DIY // Bejewelled Beanie

Around here it’s the time of year to layer on up, always carry an umbrella and never leave the house without some kind of headwear to keep the trestles under control. And, well, since it’s the time of year to get all sparkly and such, why not extend that idea to your party hat! I have used a piece of broken jewellery and a jersey beanie making this hat super cheap to make! Instructions: 1. Remove any excess chain, jump rings or other findings from your jewellery. 2. Thread your needle and sew the jewellery onto the hat making sure… Read More

7 Days of Christmas Crackers // DIY Colour Block Cabachon

I’m off to my local German Market today with the family. It’s the ultimate Christmas tradition and even though the stalls are the same every year and it’s always mega busy I don’t mind, it’s worth it for the festive atmosphere and hot gluewine! It is also one of the things me and Al did together when we first started dating, so it’s dead romantic for me as well! Ahem… Anyway. Back to the matter in hand Imagine snapping up one of these beauties in your Christmas cracker this year. A bit better than a plastic ring right!? Instructions: 1…. Read More

DIY Monkey Fist Knot Earrings

With Christmas fast approaching here’s hoping you have mostly women to make for… right, in a perfect world. Fear (k)not (ha ha ha…) tomorrow we’re making one for the boys. We’ll be using this Monkey Knot technique so pay attention! 1. Using dyes or watered down acrylic paints, dye metre long lengths of yarn in whatever colours you like. (I like the bright ones.) 2. Wrap the (dried) yarn around your hand three times, then wrap around the middle of these three times. (Shown above) 3. Thread the yarn around the second three strands in the middle of the original… Read More

7 Days of Christmas Crackers // DIY Animal Magnets

Christmas crackers always need a little humour, so add a few giggles over the table with a gold horses ass magnet! Or maybe they prefer a rabbits tail to hold up their shopping list? Either way, these are dead easy to make and are perfect for adults and children alike. Winner! Instructions: 1. Saw the plastic animals in half and sand the ‘insides’ to create a flat surface. 2. Spray with coloured spray paint and leave to dry. 3. Glue magnets onto the flat surface with strong glue. I think the gold goat is my favourite. I love those ram… Read More
