I don’t know if many of you know this but I have a degree in textile design. It’s been a while since I finished but I’m still fascinated with texture, pattern and surface design especially of tactile materials like fabric and porcelain. What I absolutely love is pattern made from random formations and gradients, so you can imagine how excited I was to find a really easy way to create this fabric at home with old denim jeans off cuts. There are two different techniques I’m going to show you in this tutorial; Shibori and tie dye. Lets start with… Read More
Make it Easy: Miu Miu Fringed Leather Shoulder Bag
For me this summer is all about tassels, fringing, long dangly bits that move in the breeze and reveal sun-kissed skin. There’s something opulent in the organic way fringing moves, swaying individually, but surging all as one. It appears I’m not the only one obsessed with these tasselled delights. Basically if you can wear it, you can get a tassel on it. And why not!? I love this Miu Miu Fringed Leather Bag. Most of us will have a black leather handbag lying around unused somewhere. Why not give it a new lease of life? Materials: Leather Shoulder Bag Faux… Read More
DIY Faux Gold Cuff Earrings
You might have heard me talking about my earring dilemma here on the blog before. It’s an ongoing issue I have with dangling, sparkly earrings that look fantasticly grown up and sophisticated in shops, online, in other peoples ears and just laying around in general, that is until I have anything to do with it. As soon as those little wires grace my pierced ears a transformation happens. I’m suddenly a much, much younger version of myself clopping around in oversized stilettos and parading the latest wears from Pat Butchers jewellery box. (Very British reference there. Sorry to anyone who… Read More
Beads & Baubles: Pre-Sale
If you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably heard me drop a few hints about my first ecourse, Beads & Baubles. I’ve been working on putting this together for a few months now and I’m so proud and happy about what I’ve achieved! I wanted to create a platform to teach basic jewellery making skills, then use them to create contemporary, trend based pieces of jewellery that can be customised and personalised to fit everyone’s individual style. The course is held on a members only, fully interactive website featuring images, video, quick links to previous lessons and Q&A’s on every lesson page…. Read More
DIY Crystal Wrap Earrings
When the absolutely gorgeous Clemence from Oh The Lovely Things asked me to guest post for her, how on earth could I refuse! Her blog is full to the brim of wonderful recipes, ingenious DIYs and gorgeous style inspiration. Yes! I want to join in with the party please. So I thought about it and I wanted to make something contemporary and wonderful, and also just a little bit understated. I know you can’t read two lines about jewellery these days without the word ‘statement’ showing its sparkly, shiny, multicoloured head and essentially I have no problem with this. I love… Read More
DIY Woven Hanging Planters
I think it’s pretty easy to see where my inspiration for these woven hanging planters came from. Take one hanging planter, mix with a woven wall hanging and you’ve got yourself an indoor garden party! Patterns and form influences from 1960’s fibre art and my ever growing collection of wool and yarn took over, and without any real planning this happened. I’m definitely going to make some larger versions of these, but I couldn’t wait any longer to share them with you. I’m too impatient like that. So keep an eye on my Instagram feed for more woven green goodness. Materials Wool… Read More
How to Make a Kumihimo Disk
I love a good Kumihimo braiding sesh. The constant repetition of swapping threads and turning the disk is enough to ease even the most stressful of days. Watching the intertwined cords build up to make an aesthetically pleasing cord that you can then use to make awesome jewellery is so satisfying. I recommend it to everyone and with this tutorial you don’t even need to go out and buy any specialist tools or materials to get started. Materials: Foam Sheets Glue Scissors/Craft Knife Instructions: 1. Depending on the thickness of your foam glue a few sheets together to make a foam… Read More
Fall For… Jewelled
Guys! I’m so excited to tell you I’m currently working on designing my own jewellery range. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a really long time now. I’ve attempted it in the past, but only ever skirted round the edges and not really sunk my teeth in. I’m currently in the design stages so don’t expect to see anything too soon, but I’m pretty excited about the ideas I have already and I’ll probably end up turning a couple of things into DIYs. I can’t help it! I’m planning to sell on Etsy (worldwide) and Handmake Me (UK only… Read More
