It’s been a while since my last jewellery DIY post. Recently I’ve been making a lot of interior accessories rather than the wearable kind. Maybe it’s the weather. It brings out the nesting instinct inside of me. I want my home to be full of wonderful, shiny things because I’m not leaving again until spring… (well, if I had my way anyway). I’ve also been blogging for a couple of interior design focussed blogs (Design*Sponge and Homedit for anyone who missed the memo) and so a lot of my research has been focussed on this area. This tutorial actually came… Read More
All in the Details | DIY Waste Basket Lampshade
I might have mentioned this before but I have a little obsession with lampshades. So much so it took a surprising amount of time to make this DIY waste paper basket lampshade. They’re one of the things that immediately grabs my attention and done right can make even the simplest decor look amazing. This is especially important when you’re trying to make an impact on a budget or can’t make any drastic changes to you home. It’s so much a part of how I judge a new bar or local restaurant refurbishment that Al will often ask what I think of the lampshades… Read More
Make it Easy | Crystal Jumper
Ladies of the apprentice listen up now. You do not need to put LED lights in the collar of a jacket to really sparkle at a party. In fact unless you’re a cyclist it’s probably best to avoid flashing lapels at all costs. I mean, really guys? You had me sold at the pocket charger (seriously, why hasn’t this been invented yet?) But if you are still feeling like you need something a little special to stand out from the crowd and need that extra layer to stay warm in the cold weather then look no further. I have the… Read More
DIY Hanging Wardrobe Rail
I decided I wanted to make a hanging wardrobe rail just because I liked the idea of it. I’d seen quite a few of them around Pinterest that looked amazing and I’d picked up some metal pole tubes in a clearance sale (knowing full well I’d use them for something). It turns out this is one of the most useful DIY’s I’ve made… maybe ever! Obviously as a blogger it’s great to have somewhere pretty to hang up plants, clothes, jewellery and, well… pumpkins to take photos but it’s also really nice to have a place to hang tomorrow’s outfits (this… Read More
All in the Details | Dalmatian Planters
A few of you on Instagram noticed the planter in the background of my recent candle stick post for Design* Sponge! I’ve got to say the comments made me so happy as I made the planter for the ‘All in the Details’ series I’m making in collaboration with Homedit. The comments were so sweet. You guys know how to make a girl feel good! I’m really enjoying this series and even just three weeks in I feel like I’m already starting to make an positive impact on my home. I think it’s the careful planning of handmade decor that can look so… Read More
Simple Skills | Contact Paper Packaging
Over the years I have accumulated quite a collection of self adhesive contact papers. Different surface patterns and textures (sort of) at the peel of a paper. I’m a big fan of a marbled effect (of course) which I’ve been using to cover the packaging for my jewellery (you can get a look at some of the newly released pieces on Etsy and Handmake Me). I made the decision to include contact paper in my simple skills series because lets face it, we’ve all got stuck to the stuff once in our lives! I’ve covered enough of my belongings with it now… Read More
Fall For… Creative Kitchens
Living in a rented flat it’s difficult to make a change to areas like the kitchen and bathroom without getting permission first. And even then, who wants to spend money on someone else’s apartment to be made to leave at a moments notice (the rental laws in the UK are awful). Apart from refitting, storing the old furniture and then refitting it when you leave (yeah, right.) you’re pretty much stuck with what you’ve got. We’re really lucky. The couple we rent our flat off are lovely and have excellent taste! (I don’t think they’d be reading this, but it never… Read More
DIY Black Marbled Candle Holders
As you guys know, I never shy away from a potential marble project. And so if my new position as a DIY contributor to Design*Sponge was not exciting enough (!!) it gave me yet another chance to revisit one of my current favourite techniques. It’s marbled clay of course! After using the marbled effect in a lot of other DIY’s I really wanted to create a different effect for this tutorial. I can’t help but be influenced by the changing seasons and as the evenings get darker and the weather more murky I find myself opting for darker colours over… Read More
