My most popular festive craft to date are these Easy DIY Christmas star decorations. Not only are they quick to make, but they are also incredible inexpensive. In fact I’ve made some of these stars using recycled cardboard packaging which not only looks cute, but is free too! Every little helps to make the Christmas period a little more magical with a little less pressure on the bank balance.
Another huge benefit to recycling your old packaging to make these Christmas stars is the benefit to the planet! No one needs more plastic decorations when paper and card do the job so beautifully. You can also paint them, add gold leaf or even get the kids involved for a creative craft session. This is a great way to get them involved and feeling the Christmas spirit!
Here’s the video to watch how I make them with the full tutorial and template below:

Instructions:
- Print the template out on to A4 paper at 100% then cut out the star and corresponding diamond shape for the size you require.
- Use the templates to cut 1 star and 4 diamonds from your chosen material. This could be anything from old cardboard boxes to milk cartons to tomato paste tubes. Be creative!
- Fold the diamond shapes in half so the furthest points come together (so across the central line not with it) and cut along the central line.
- Slide the triangles onto 4 points of the star so that the fold sits at the centre of the star, missing 1 point in between each triangle.
