This necklace is inspired by the beautiful woven work by Fiona Paxton. I’ve used a Navajo style ribbon to recreate the delicate bead work. If you’d like to make it, here’s how.
-
Cover the ends of your ribbon in glue to stiffen.
-
While it’s drying cut lengths of chain in various sizes. Lay them out to check they will hang evenly.
-
Once the glue is dry, poke holes through the ribbon
- Open the links of your chain (tutorial here) and attach them to one side of the ribbon, graduating the sizes from small to large.
- Attach the other end of the chain to the opposite side of ribbon. Making sure the chain is not twisted as you do this.
And that’s it. Experiment with different lengths of chain and ribbon to give your piece a little twist on the original.

Hey there, I adore all of your creative hand-crafted designs and DIY’s firstly. I also bookmark (& pin of course) ALL of your tutorials because your photos & instructions are always easy to follow! Thank you. For the first time now, I am getting around to trying my hand in re-creating one of your jewelry DIY’s here. FIRST, I know it sounds silly to ask but what name exactly is this chain? Out of curiosity, how do you order certain chains? Maybe it’s time for a ‘most used materials & tools’ Post (.. Hint ;) In the meantime, back to my drawing board! TY again.

Hey Jeanine,
Thank you so much for such kind words :) and for pinning my tutorials. The chain is a small/medium curb link chain. I like the idea of some kind of big tools and materials database. I’ve started including links to products in my most recent tutorials but back then I didn’t do that. Here’s a link to this type of chain
