I am one of those people who finds wearing colour difficult. I spend so much time eyeing up colourful jumpers and dresses only to realise the poor thing would spend more time in the back of my wardrobe in favour of that black cozy jumper that I’ve been wearing three days straight already. But the less I buy anything out of my comfort zone, the less likely I am to wear anything out of my comfort zone. So instead we get stuck in a spiral of ‘blend into the background’ colours. And although these are so easy to throw on at a moments notice, sometimes I really want to wear something more interesting and fun.
So how do I get out of this cycle? My answer is jewellery. It’s much more wearable for those of us who are colour shy and if, half way through the day you feel self conscious and overwhelmed (the struggle is real my friends) you can just whip it off and camouflage into the nearest building or tree for a breather.
It’s made even easier by choosing your colour combinations. These beads from the Beadmixer are perfect for creating the perfect mix of bolds, pastels or colour pops for anyone, whether you’re a colour connoisseur or fresh off the block. They are really affordable a super easy so make so you really have not excuse no to!
Materials
Instructions
1. Arrange the beads on a flat surface and experiment with design and colour choices. You need to create a smaller circle inside a larger one that are both joined with larger beads along the top of the necklace. These beads make it easier to double up the cord as you will see in the next steps.
2. Snap a photo of the design just in case (you don’t want all the hard work from step one to go to waste!) and starting at one top corner begin to thread the beads onto 1 meter of cord. Travel along the top beads stopping after the final large bead.
3. Now change direction and begin threading through the outer circle of beads. Continue until you get back around to the start of the larger beads along the top row.
4. Now thread back through the first two beads here in the same direction as the first time around. Stop before you thread through the middle bead. Now you want to go through the inner circle in the opposite direction that you did for the outer circle.
5. Miss out the middle bead and continue along the top row threading through the final two larger beads on the top row.
6. Now just thread on the last few beads to give the necklace symmetry. Tie each end of the cord around the other length to create an adjustable pully knot and knot small beads onto the ends for decoration.
Mix up the size of the beads and the colour combinations just for fun! Show me your combinations by tagging #fallfordiy on Instagram. I can’t wait to see them!
