I know I’m late to this party, but how good is E-6000 glue?! I first heard about this glue many years ago when a customer to the bead shop was telling me about how she made a sparkly microphone with rhinestones and a tube of E-6000 and I’ve been meaning to pick some up ever since. Well, I finally took the plunge and ordered a tube online. I don’t know if it was the fumes (please open a window when you’re using it) or the sheer power of this glue that made me giddy, but what I did know was… Read More
DIY Pastel Pop Egg Cups
I wasn’t planning on creating an Easter tutorial. It just wasn’t something that inspired me to create. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to turn down the chocolate eggs anyone throws my way but I have no desire to decorate eggs or decorate with eggs. I genuinely think all the Easter DIY’s other bloggers have made are beautiful especially egg shell candles and the gorgeous embellished eggs, but I just don’t get excited about making them and living in a 50% vegan household it seems pretty pointless to decorate all the eggs for myself… But then Sunday happened. I… Read More
DIY Faux Buffalo Horn Necklace
With spring comes this almost primeval urge to clean, sort, organise and start afresh. It’s quite telling that as human beings we’re constantly trying to start again rather than fix the underlying problems. Sometimes it’s easier to abandon the broken than try to fix it, a trait that may have perhaps led us to the throw away culture we now live our lives based on. The fear of failure drives us to cease striving and instead of powering through, we give up on ourselves and abandon our aspirations to follow suit. I want to be the person that doesn’t give… Read More
Fall For… Perfect Porcelain
Porcelain is such an unexpected luxurious material. It’s delicate properties secretly contradict it’s sturdy, almost stone like aesthetic. It’s stark white colouring complements a range of hues and although it’s not an obvious jewellery substance it looks as fantastic in this application as it does as traditional tablewear. I’m taking my inspiration from these beautiful examples. Expect to see some tutorials coming soon! 1. Sweet Little Pot 2. Elephant Ceramics 3. Bookhou 4. Pinto Cups 5. White Porcelain Necklace 6. Abstract Mosaics 7. Comoé Porcelain Rings
DIY Faux Labradorite Geo Drop Earrings
April Fools! No this is not a real gem stone… lol. Anyway… Precious stones and sparkly gems are going no where in a hurry so I decided to try out another faux crystal jewellery tutorial. Rather than make another DIY pendant necklace I saw an opportunity to make these elegant faux labradorite Geometric Drop Earrings. I think one of my favourite things about these earrings is that they can be worn in two different ways. The chain in slipped onto the earring post before putting it in the ear and can be easily removed leaving a small and understated faux… Read More
DIY Marble Planters
These DIY marble planters are quick, easy and ridiculously cheap to make. I’ve been hoarding empty food packaging to make concrete vases (alas one day) but it was getting a little too bag lady in my office and I needed somewhere nice to put my one remaining basil. Such a trooper, he’s come back from near death and needed somewhere nice to grow. And you know me. I’m always looking for excuses to pull out the marble contact paper… Materials: Cylindrical Packaging | Strong Multipurpose Glue | Craft Knife | Contact Paper Instructions: 1. Measure the length and diameter of your packaging and… Read More
DIY Ring and Tassel Necklace
It’s been a while since I’ve added a tassel or two to a project, I was getting fringing withdrawals! So when I was in need of something a little more colourful to brighten up the transition from winter to spring what else could I do? And I have to say I’ve got serious love for this burnt coral hue. I’ve also never used jump rings this way before but I’m loving the result. One of the perks of separating the tassels this way is that the weight they create help the necklace to hang naturally and not sneak off to… Read More
How To Space Beads with Crimps
Crimps are a small but mighty force in jewellery making. Tiny and delicate they are made to go unnoticed yet at the same time can create spectacular designs on intricate pieces. As well as having a great visual impact crimps are also used for the functional aspects of jewellery making. Used with cord, nylon wire or invisible cords to attach clasps, space beads, hold motifs in place and attach layers you have to agree, they’re pretty useful (and easy to lose) little things to have on hand! Today I’m using mine to space beads and end cord with clam shell… Read More
